This was known as the first go kart - "Kart 1" - Built in 1956 by Art Ingels .
... a rocket powered Dart Kart from the mid-1960's.
"Would you believe that in the mid-1960’s the rocket-powered kart pictured above turned the quarter mile at over 150 mph? 0 to 150 in 7.3 seconds! That was Jack McClure with his modified 1963 Rupp Dart Kart powered by a pair of Turbonique T-16 rocket motors."
These engines powered the little kart to faster times than rail dragsters of its day.

The rocket motors had a glitch, and exploded now and then - killing a few drivers and landed the owner of Turbonique factory in jail.
In 1980, the karting speed envelope was pushed yet further by Australian Rosco McGlashan. Rosco, who at the time was living in the U.S., built and drove a hydrogen peroxide rocket kart that surpassed 253 mph!
It's getting to be a tough decision whether to make a parachute via DaVinci, or a jet-kart for the upcoming Memorial Day HITWRA entertainment...maybe, the two should be developed together for obvious reasons. I only hope Green Peace is wrong about the ice caps so our efforts (S.O.G.) aren't wasted on the Glacier tour business.

4 opinionated prattle:
I can picture a "new" Go Kart, fueled by a "alternative" fuel. In a race, no one is going to tailgate you, so you are destined to always be in the lead - the engine would have no mechanical moving parts, consequently, no break downs or need for a "pit stop". Corporate sponsors would beg to have their name painted onthe side of the kart - a light weight, aluminum framed Go Kart fueled by diet coke and momentos!
